For more than fifty years UNC’s Department of American Studies has explored US American culture from local, regional, national, and global perspectives. We are committed to interdisciplinary approaches that place American institutions as well as the histories, cultures, and contemporary experiences of American people at the center of academic study. Graduates of our department build careers in public history, arts, museums, and non-profits in addition to law, health, and business.
