Overview:
This is a provisional appointment.
Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
Under direction, performs work of moderate difficulty assisting the Director of Human Resources, Office of Streets with a wide variety of administrative functions.
Responsibilities:
Composes correspondence.
Calculates and executes personnel documents such as step raises, official memoranda and reports.
Uses the PeopleSoft Human Resources program to obtain necessary personnel data.
Maintains confidential personnel records and files.
Explains personnel policies and procedures.
Manages and oversees Managing Attendance program and keeps statistics regarding the same.
Prepares correspondence and memoranda to be sent to other city and state departments relative to civil service matters.
Answers the telephone and assists callers requesting verification of employment, personnel information, or connects them to proper employees.
Files all personnel documents.
Performs related work as required.
Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or Designee.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paid experience in office work or business administration, in work the major duties of which include one or more of the following functions: office management, records management, purchasing or personnel administration.
Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and be able to focus on detail as required by the job.
Knowledge of Civil Service laws, Managing Attendance Program, and City of Boston personnel policies and procedures preferred.
Knowledge of PeopleSoft Human Resources Program preferred.
Strong computer and organizational skills preferred.
Appropriate educational substitutions may be made.
BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.
