The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is a state agency responsible for maintaining the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway – two of the busiest toll roads in the United States. Position:
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is seeking applications for an opening in the Engineering department for an Administrative Secretary- Engineering at our Woodbridge, NJ headquarters building.

Works under the general direction of Senior Supervising Engineer/Supervising Engineer, performing various administrative and secretarial functions in the Engineering Department.

This position will be responsible for establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with staff, colleagues and members of all Authority departments as well as outside agencies to further the objectives of the department and the authority.

Responsibilities:

1. Performs all administrative duties for the Senior Supervising Engineer/Supervising Engineer.

2. Types correspondence, RFEOIs, meeting minutes, memorandums, statistical reports, routine reports and other master copies as necessary for staff members.

3. Processes and routes incoming correspondence, types and files copies of outgoing correspondence, and maintains necessary files.

4. Handles telephone calls and arranges appointments for the supervisor, relays messages and information to proper personnel. Operates standard office machines.

5. Answers correspondence not requiring a dictated reply and relieves the supervisor of routine clerical duties.

6. Performs related duties within generally prescribed practice to ensure efficient office operation.

7. PeopleSoft System – enters payroll data weekly or biweekly, prepares check requisitions and purchase requisitions as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or GED required.

2. Accurately typing speed of 50 words per minute.

( Must successfully pass a typing test)

3. Working knowledge of Authority policies and procedures.

4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general scheduling programs.

5. Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Benefits & Pay:

Starting pay will be the minimum salary stated in this posting. The position will be located at the NJTA headquarters building in Woodbridge, NJ.

This position is represented by Teamsters Local 97. Toll-free commutation is available for employee travel to and from work on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.

All Local 97 NJTA full time employees are entitled to participate in the following benefits per the guidelines of the collective bargaining agreement: Medical, dental, vision, and prescription insurance after applicable waiting period ; Enrollment in the NJ Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) if eligible; PERS Life Insurance and PERS Supplemental Life Insurance; Worker’s Compensation Insurance; 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan; Time off including holidays, vacation, sick, personal, leave of absences, and other pre­ approved days after applicable waiting periods.

This position is eligible for flextime hours upon meeting the requirements outlined in the Authority’s policy and at the Authority’s ultimate discretion. Additionally, this position is eligible for telework upon meeting the requirements outlined in the Authority’s policy, such as performance expectations and applicable waiting periods, and at the Authority’s ultimate discretion. Flex time and Telework is not guaranteed. Local 97 members will receive an annual increment (PIP) to their base salary per the guidelines of the CBA.
