Position Overview

The Area Human Resources Manager will support approximately 200 employees across two hotels in Portland, Maine: The Press Hotel and Canopy by Hilton. This role will partner closely with each property’s General Manager (GM) and the Director of Human Resources (DHR) for Fathom Companies. The HR Manager is responsible for the oversight and execution of all property-level HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, compliance, and training.

A key focus of this role is to act as a Culture Champion, ensuring our workplace values are actively demonstrated and deeply felt by all team members. The ideal candidate is someone who brings a strong training background, enjoys facilitating group sessions, and thrives in a dynamic hospitality setting.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure full understanding and implementation of all company policies and procedures, including communication of updates to all associates.
Conduct new hire onboarding and deliver company training programs.
Partner with GMs and department leaders on coaching, performance management, and annual reviews.
Coordinate benefits enrollment for new hires and support the annual open enrollment process.
Maintain and audit employee records and personnel files in compliance with federal, state, local, and brand standards.
Identify individual or team development needs and deliver engaging, creative training solutions.
Ensure training and operational compliance with brand standards for each property.
Support day-to-day employee relations and serve as the first point of contact for routine HR inquiries; escalate more complex issues to the DHR as appropriate.
Monitor and manage the HR department budget.
Oversee associate locker areas and breakroom amenities.
Conduct exit interviews and summarize trends for leadership.
Manage active workers’ compensation claims and provide weekly updates to the DHR.
Assist with FMLA administration and collection of insurance premiums while employees are on leave.
Participate on internal committees and contribute to special projects as assigned by the GMs or DHR.
Perform other duties as needed in alignment with company priorities.

Qualifications

Prior HR experience in the hospitality or service industry strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws (federal, state, and local).
Comfortable conducting training sessions and leading group discussions.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
A genuine passion for people, culture, and hospitality.
