Assistant City Clerk

The City of College Park seeks an experienced professional to execute the duties of the Assistant City Clerk.

In this position, the Assistant City Clerk supports the City Clerk in overseeing the activities and operations of the Office of the City Clerk, ensuring open and transparent government services. Working under the City Clerk’s direction, the role includes organizing City Council and other public meetings, preparing agendas, taking meeting minutes, managing records, filing, document retrieval, assisting with municipal elections, and performing various administrative tasks assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent technical writing, administrative and organizational skills, strong computer proficiency, and the ability to prepare accurate and timely minutes and reports in a professional manner.

The role requires frequent interaction with individuals at all levels within and outside the City government, demanding tact, cooperation, discretion, and a proactive approach. The selected candidate will be expected to attend evening City Council meetings and occasional community meetings.

Minimum qualifications for this position include:

Associate degree in business, public administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Five years of progressively responsible administrative support experience to a City Clerk or similar official in municipal government.
Two years of supervisory and management experience (preferred).
Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) certification from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, or the ability to obtain it within the first year of employment.
Experience assisting with municipal elections and the election process.
Proficiency in professional-level computer use.

Preferred qualifications include:

Experience in municipal government
Training in the Open Meetings Act
Records Retention Training
Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA) Training
