JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Community Services, this position performs administrative and professional work overseeing the Recreation Operations Division ensuring a variety of high-quality leisure opportunities are accessible to the public. Works with a high level of independence and initiative; however, confers with the Assistant Director of Community Services on matters involving higher-level administrative or legal expertise. Areas of responsibility include facility operations, project management, recreation programming, and special events.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or related field. Five to ten years of related progressively responsible supervisory experience. Knowledge of current practices and trends in recreation programming, athletics, aquatics, facility operations, and special events.

Special Requirements:

Experience in the use of ActiveNet® and/or other program registration and facility reservation software. Active membership and/or involvement with the Texas Recreation and Park Society, Texas Amateur Athletic Federation, Texas Public Pool Council, and National Recreation and Park Association and/or other professional or community organizations. American Red Cross First Aid, AED and CPR Certification, or ability to obtain within three months of hire date. Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) preferred. Possession of a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of principles and methods of organization and management of multi-generational community recreation, athletics, aquatics and special events; program development and implementation; brochure development; graphic design; public relations; marketing and budget strategies; personal computer and related software applications, and supervisory and leadership techniques.

Ability to consistently perform multiple diverse tasks simultaneously, detail oriented and work well under pressure.

Knowledge of budgeting and purchasing processes and procedures, effective conflict resolution techniques and methods.

Skilled in managing, delegating and evaluating work activities, researching, and implementing community services and establishing and maintaining positive productive working relationships inside and outside of the city.

Ability to work a schedule that will vary in length/duration and also by day, date, starting/ending time and schedule in order to accomplish assigned tasks and responsibilities including emergency management functions inside and outside of the Emergency Operations Center.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity and walking.
