We are looking to add an experienced, strategic and growth focused Chief Operating Officer with direct experience in multi location leadership across both practice and ideally with ASC. This is a great opportunity to join an organization with larger national support and resources.
The position is onsite in Madison, MS- relocation is offered.
The COO is the Senior Operating Executive responsible for translating physician-leader and Practice Management Board direction into disciplined execution across the practice. The portfolio spans business and clinical operations, financial stewardship, people leadership, research, technology, facilities, compliance, quality, marketing, and growth.
A broad, enterprise-level operating role with meaningful local accountability, paired with access to larger centralized expertise and resources. Success requires sound judgment about when to lead locally, when to partner, and how to maintain alignment across physician governance and the broader organization.
Duties
- Lead the day-to-day business of the practice through the management team.
- Build operating discipline, transparency, and accountability across functions.
- Protect and improve the patient and employee experience while advancing financial and operational performance.
- Partner effectively with the President, Practice Management Board, physicians, and company resources.
- Identify and execute growth, market expansion, service enhancement, technology, real estate, payer, and transaction opportunities.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, quality performance, and readiness for emergencies or disruptions.
- Market expansion; service enhancements; emerging technologies; acquisitions or mergers; office and real estate expansion; payer contracting; physician recruitment support; referral growth; acquired-practice integration.
- Resource allocation; staffing, equipment, supplies and facilities; policy consistency; contracts; scheduling workflows; patient financial assistance; patient satisfaction; fellowship program support.
- Operating budgets; capital planning; accounting; inventory; financial analysis; revenue cycle and cash flow; payer strategy; spending decisions within approved thresholds; physician compensation pool support.
- Oversight of HR; recruitment and onboarding; performance management; benefits; disciplinary actions; training; conflict resolution; productivity, cost, retention and equity metrics; physician benefits and agreements support.
- Referral development; market research; community outreach; practice and physician reputation; websites, educational materials and social media; external representation; philanthropy.
- Clinical research oversight; regulatory and ethical trial conduct; research integration and performance; IT deployment and utilization; facility maintenance, safety and security; technology adoption.
- HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA and payer billing requirements; risk mitigation; emergency planning; payer quality metrics; clinical policies; documentation, billing, audit and training plans.
- Operational and financial updates; Board meeting support; information flow to physicians; reporting on operating metrics, benchmarks, compliance matters and relevant larger company initiatives.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business management, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Five to ten years of executive medical practice management experience.
- Proven experience in financial management, healthcare operations, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong business acumen, analytical capability, and decision-making judgment.
- Commitment to a patient-first and employee-supportive culture.
Preferred experience
- Experience coordinating operations with hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.
- Understanding of buy-and-bill pharmaceutical administration.
- Experience with medical billing software and modern healthcare technology, including EHR, practice management, PACS, inventory, financial, and data analysis systems.
