Chief Operations Officer

Cheney Federal Credit Union | Cheney, WA | Full-time, Exempt | $120,000 to $140,000 annually

They just don’t have the right seat.

Cheney Federal Credit Union is searching for their next Chief Operations Officer. We are a community-rooted, $150 million institution that has served Cheney and the West Plains since 1951, with a CEO and board who are clear about where they are going and ready to give the right person room to take them there.

We are not looking for someone to keep operations steady. We want someone who can help build and grow the operation our credit union needs for the future.

What you will own

You will report directly to the CEO and serve as a key member of this credit union’s executive leadership team. Both branches, lending, collections, member services, training, and marketing report through you. So do compliance, technology, and facilities.

  • Direct all credit union operations, including planning, recommending, and implementing programs and policies
  • Provide executive oversight of lending operations, portfolio performance, credit quality, credit concentration, and underwriting discipline
  • Serve on the Asset/Liability Committee, and either hold the Compliance Officer designation or oversee the compliance management program as assigned by the CEO
  • Lead operational technology initiatives, process automation, and digital banking improvements
  • Develop and retain a high performing staff, and build the leadership bench and succession plans behind key positions
  • Provide regular reports, analyses, and recommendations to the CEO and board of directors on operational performance, risk management, and strategic initiatives
  • Assist in overseeing enterprise risk management, including operational, compliance, cybersecurity, fraud, vendor, and business continuity risk
  • Maintain sound relations with NCUA examiners and all other auditors
  • Serve as acting CEO in the CEO’s absence as delegated

What you bring

A bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible financial institution leadership experience.

At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a financial institution, including demonstrated experience leading multiple operational departments. Strong knowledge of federal financial regulations and risk management. Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills. The ability to supervise staff and carry out policy under the bylaws, government regulations, and board direction.

Helpful, though not required: an MBA, five years of executive or senior management experience, Credit Union Management School, Pacific Coast Banking School, CUES, CCUE, or CUDE certification, and experience working directly with a credit union board of directors.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $140,000 annually. Final compensation within that range depends on qualifications and experience.

Benefits

Insurance. Medical, dental, vision, Life/AD&D, and long-term disability insurance. Cheney Federal Credit Union pays 100% of the employee premium.

Retirement. 401(k) plan. Employer matches up to $200 per month and may also make a discretionary year-end contribution.

Paid time off. Vacation leave starts at 13 days per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and sick leave. Paid sick leave is provided in accordance with Washington state law.

Other compensation. This position is eligible for an annual years-of-service-based bonus. The bonus consists of a $150 base amount plus an additional amount for each year of service. The per-year amount for this position will be established as part of the employee’s compensation terms upon an offer being made.
