Job Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled Cloud Operations Database Administrator with deep expertise in AWS to design, manage, and optimize our cloud-based database infrastructure. However, this is not a traditional DBA role. Instead, you will focus on the governance, automation and operational oversight of databases platforms in AWS, primarily RDS, across a large, multi-account and multi-regional environment. You will play a critical role in ensuring our database ecosystem is secure, compliant, cost effective, and operationally efficient, leveraging native AWS services and automation practices.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide centralized oversight and management of AWS database services, primarily Amazon RDS, across multiple AWS accounts and regions
  • Design and implement solutions to discover, inventory, and track RDS instances in a dynamic cloud environment
  • Identify and remediate non-compliant database configurations (multi-AZ, encryption at rest, security, backup, deletion protection, monitoring, tagging, cost optimization, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain automated workflows and tooling to enforce standards and reduce manual intervention
  • Partner with operations and automation teams to ensure best practices for database deployment and lifecycle management
  • Leverage native AWS services (e.g., Control Tower, Config, EventBridge, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, Lambda, Systems Manager, RDS Performance Insights, Backup, IAM) to build scalable governance solutions
  • Monitor database environments for performance, reliability, and operational health trends
  • Contribute to cost optimization strategies across RDS environments

Requirements and Skills

  • 2+ years of experience working with AWS cloud services, with a strong focus on AWS RDS
  • Understanding of multi-account AWS environments and governance at scale
  • Automation & Scripting – Python, AWS CLI, PowerShell
  • Familiarity with database administration concepts (Backup/Recovery, HA, Performance, Security, Upgrades)
  • Experience identifying and resolving configuration drift and compliance issues
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a distributed environment

Education & Experience

  • In depth knowledge of any of the following RDBMS’s: Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL
  • Linux
  • Databricks
  • Elasticsearch / ElastiCache
  • Azure DevOps (pipelines, repos, CI/CD)
