Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.
About Genome Informatics Team
You would be joining the Genome Informatics group, a team of 8 professionals with expertise in informatics and genomics. The Genome Informatics group is involved in medical research as well as managing all high-performance computing for the Institute which includes a cluster with 2500 cores and 16 PB disk which is used by approximately 250 QIMR researchers. We use a variety of database systems to support critical aspects of our work including MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Stardog Enterprise Knowledge Graph, and MongoDB.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities
Applications are invited for an experienced Database Administrator to join our team and ensure high availability and reliability of databases running on Linux-based systems and to collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to support business-critical operations.
The Following Duties Will Apply
Install, configure, and maintain database systems including relational, graph-based and document-based databases.
Perform system upgrades, patches, and routine maintenance tasks.
Troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues.
Monitor and optimize database performance using native and third-party tools
Automate routine tasks using scripts or other configuration management tools.
Implement database security controls including user access management, encryption, and auditing.
Manage user accounts, access levels, roles, and security protocols in collaboration with QIMRB informatics staff.
About You
You are required to have:
A degree in information technology, computer science, computational biology or relevant field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Demonstrated experience in database administration.
Demonstrated experience in automation of database-related tasks.
Experience with large scale data processing and management.
The ability to work independently as part of a team.

Remuneration:
Salary range is $124,169 to $133,890 p.a. plus super and generous salary packaging. This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for two (2) years.
