Position Summary: Diet and Nutrition Administrative Officer III is an essential part of the dietary team. The Diet and Nutrition Administrative Officer III ensures that the patients receive the correct meals according to their nutritional plan. This work involves attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. This position works under the general supervision of the Supervisors or Department Director. The Administrative Officer III works independently and under established procedures and performs various tasks and operations to prepare food items and set up patient meal services. This position is also responsible for preparing food for meal service for patients. May be required to train other staff.
Hazards & Physical Requirements: Work in this category is majorly sedentary and involves sitting, standing, and walking; employees may be required to lift or pull up to 10 lbs. frequently or 20 lbs. occasionally.
Education & Experience: Any combination of a High School Diploma or an equivalent certificate from an accredited institution, vocational or technical certificate of completion, with 3 or more years of applicable experience in a related field. Knowledge of diet and nutrition principles is preferred.
Specific Requirements: Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel. Must possess the ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Must have a current Virgin Islands food handler’s card.
Duties include:
Ensure distribution of special supplements as assigned.
Adjust patients’ diets based on new orders and changes in orders sent to the diet office.
Calculate diabetic diets following standards established by the dietitian.
Communicate with the kitchen manager/chef daily to understand and properly prepare menus for patients.
Print menus for hosts/hostesses to read for the patients.
Post daily cafeteria menus on the phone voice mail for the café.
Complete patient surveys on a weekly basis to establish satisfactory food service for patients.
Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely and accurate meal service.
Answer diet office telephone in a professional and courteous manner.
Record number of meals served accurately.
Monitor food temperatures with temperature logs.
Monitor refrigerator temperatures with temperature logs.
Tally quantities of specific foods to be prepared by the cooks.
Responsible for keeping and maintaining accurate records.
Assist in the training of new employees.
Assist with delivering patient trays as needed.
Clean and orderly office.
Assist with serving food for the tray line service as needed.
And all other duties as assigned.
