SUMMARY
The Director of Human Resources will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and onboarding team members, administering benefits, driving company policies, and assisting in team member relations activities.
The Director of Human Resources shall strive to provide exceptional service our team members at all times. They will be responsible for exemplifying the Woodmark Hotel & Still Spa Culture as well as promoting our hotel values of Honesty, Enthusiasm, Integrity, Accountability and Passion for Service.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
Coordinate all recruiting and hiring efforts:
Write and post job advertisements.
Develop and execute a recruiting plan for all hotel departments to ensure all departments remain fully staffed.
Assist and train department leaders in effective recruitment practices.
Oversee and conduct the new hire orientation process, ensuring both legal compliance and a warm, professional introduction to the property.
Training & Development
Manage all training and development programs:
Oversee new hire training and onboarding.
Coordinate and support management training and ongoing departmental training.
Ensure performance evaluations are completed accurately and on schedule.
Compliance & Record Keeping
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including wage & hour regulations.
Maintain compliance for team member certifications (e.g., Food Handler, MAST) and licensing documentation for audit readiness.
Ensure compliance with EEOC, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, and all HR & Legal regulations.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date personnel files in accordance with the HR Audit Checklist.
Employee Relations & Support
Assist with team member coaching and counseling sessions, serving as a witness and documenting proceedings.
Support conflict resolution, disciplinary action processes, and ensure consistent policy application.
Lead employee relation investigations in compliance with regulatory standards and recommend appropriate solutions in accordance with policy and legal precedent.
Conduct team member exit interviews and process terminations professionally and in accordance with policy.
Conduct team member satisfaction surveys.
Record and reduce team member turnover rates.
Benefits & Compensation
Administer and arrange employee benefits programs including health insurance, 401(k), workers’ compensation, and leave programs.
Conduct benefits enrollment sessions and support benefit-related employee events.
Assist in ensuring accuracy and compliance in all wage adjustments and increases.
Operational HR Support
Process unemployment claims and represent the hotel in unemployment hearings as necessary.
Monitor and manage timekeeping records and ensure punctuality and schedule adherence.
Lead and support employee engagement initiatives and team-building efforts.
Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permit.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Professional certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) strongly preferred.
Minimum 7–10 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in hospitality.
Deep knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and hotel operations.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
High level of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.
Proficiency with HRIS systems (ADP) and Microsoft Office Suite.
