Position Overview: Reporting to the VP, People & Culture, the Director, People & Culture provides hands-on tactical and strategic leadership in creating, implementing, and refining processes that ensure excellence in the selection and retention of people, the understanding of individual and collaborative performance, and the management of our culture and work environment. This individual will oversee traditional human resources functions, including leave management, recruitment, staffing, on-boarding, training, union negotiations, and recognition and retention efforts. S/he will also lead the continued development of personnel policies and assessment tools, oversee the administration of benefits, wage and hour compliance, and implementation and refinement of compensation analysis tools and structures. The Director of People & Culture will play a key role in fostering inclusion and professional growth that will advance the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Language Skills: English proficiency required. Spanish is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans, organizes, and oversees all activities of the People & Culture department in assigned location, developing and meeting goals and objectives, including staff supervision and departmental budget management.
Drives performance management programs, including proactive and regular meetings with all staff in supervisory roles, ensuring that staff performance is accurately and effectively assessed and that planning for individual growth is carefully considered.
Oversees the Operating Unit’s recruitment and on-boarding efforts including job postings applicant review, interviews, selection, reference and background checks, and coordination of orientation and on-boarding activities.
Provide strong support to team members with supervisory responsibilities in memorializing individual employee performance assessment and development plans.
Manages affirmative action plan, files EEO-1 annually and maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
Implements and annually updates the Operating Unit’s compensation program including assessing marketplace competitiveness and the internal equity of compensation levels.
Documents staff performance including drafting of performance appraisals, performance improvement plans, disciplinary notices, and the like.
Manages employee relations matters including one-on-one coaching with employees and supervisory staff, mediating dialogue between staff members, and other conflict resolution measures.
Coordinates workplace investigations, completing reports and providing follow-up action recommendations as appropriate.
Develops and implements regular organizational culture and connectivity events such as employee mixers, community volunteerism and other activities.
Develops, implements, evaluates and improves efforts to enhance workplace diversity at the management level and throughout the organization.
Manages the HRIS, regularly and timely coordinating with Accounting Department to ensure payroll accuracy.
Ensures that position descriptions, organization chart, and staff directory are current.
Oversees the administration of all benefit plans; leads annual renewal process.
Oversees administration of 401(k) plan including enrollment, participant education, processing change requests, distributions, hardship withdrawals, compliance filings, etc.
Provides supervision and professional development to People & Culture staff members.
Manages leave and workers compensation process.
Manages organization-wide training programs.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of federal, state and local laws pertaining to all staffing and personnel matters; continually monitors best-practice trends and pending or proposed legislation and rules; provides informative updates and training as needed to management staff.
Coordinates exit interview process including the dissemination of information as appropriate.
Provides regular reporting related to turnover, EEOC, training, safety, benefits, and other matters of importance.
Demonstrates leadership in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the workplace.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
PHR or SHRM-SCP preferred.
15 years’ Human Resources experience required.
5 years’ experience of managing an HR department.
Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
