SUMMARY:
This position partners with the management team, handles the day-to-day Human Resources functions with an emphasis in employee relations, training and development, performance management and process improvement/development for our ULF Janesville Location. Ensures compliance with state and federal labor laws and provides appropriate communication to managers and supervisors regarding new regulations. Identifies trends and recommends employee relations strategies. Acts as a consultant to internal departments to implement and performs special projects independently and with other members of the management team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Helps in the administration of health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
Support the recruiting and onboarding process in cooperation with recruiting team; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings, attending local career fairs, etc.
Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
Monitors Worker’s Compensation Program in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Administers the FMLA process and other medical absence procedures.
Administers the Drug and Alcohol Program per established policies.
Supports payroll department as needed.
Performs various clerical functions, such as photocopies; mails, scans and emails documents; Files documents into appropriate employee files.
Assists or prepares correspondence as requested, such as unemployment administration, grant applications, etc.
Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
Provide a dedicated and effective HR advisory service to employees that covers absence and health issues, conduct and capability, grievances, organizational change, and all other employee-relations matters.
Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Bachelor’s Degree (HR related discipline preferred)
Experience
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in an HR role required.
Demonstrates history of progressive responsibility and decision making
Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Must have and maintain an active driver’s license and ability to be drive company vehicles.
Skills
Excellent knowledge of HR/personnel practices and principles, and all applicable labor, pay, benefits, health, and safety laws and regulations.
Excellent planning, time management, decision making, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to coach at all levels within the organization; influencing, facilitation, presentation, negotiation, communication, process development, analysis, and problem solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to develop a high level of personal credibility with employees and management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures.
Resourceful mindset and strong attention to detail.
Proven ability to provide effective customer service for internal and external customers.
Must be detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills in order to manage a continuous workflow in a high volume, multi-tasking environment while knowing how to prioritize.
Ability to make independent decisions with minimal oversight
Demonstrated culture management and ability to translate desired company culture into specific employee and managerial behaviors.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Familiarity with HRIS programs (such as UKG).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
SHRM-CP, PHR or HR Related Accreditation
Experience in interpreting, administering, and documenting DOT regulations as it relates to Driver Qualifications, Random Drug Testing Program, FMSCA Clearinghouse admin, etc.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typical office environment with computer equipment, overhead shelves, filing cabinets.
Sitting standing 85% of time, walking, filing, stooping, bending 15% of time. Occasional overnight travel to other company locations. Ability to walk and coordinate in a warehouse and trucking environment to meet employees in their space.
May required travel for training, team events and company functions approx. 10% of the time.
