Human Resource Specialist:

Provides professional support to one or more functional areas of Human Resources. Processes various applications, recruiting and pre-employment screening efforts, benefits enrollment, pay changes, and other confidential forms and records. Gathers information and prepares reports as assigned. Maintains and distributes current employee information, policy, and procedure manuals and other communications. Assists in employee communications, responding to routine questions on human resource policies and procedures, identifying potential issues and grievances, etc.

JOB DUTIES:

Recruit and interviews applicants for job vacancies as assigned. Check references, bondability and criminal background on selected applicants. Work with management to develop job opening announcements for recruitment agencies, advertising publications, and internal employee notification. Prepare new employee orientation materials and update as needed. Participate in conducting new employee orientation. Maintain new hire, termination and transfer/promotion EEO logs.
Act as back up payroll processor using ADP. Updates any employee salary and personal and work-related information in HRIS and payroll systems.
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving internal HR related issues and inquiries from employees.
Provide administrative support for various HR duties, such as but not limited to, Affirmative Action plans, EEO-1 and Vets 4212, invoice reconciliation, 401k and Profit share processing, logo wear orders. Assists in department projects as assigned. Assist team with HR questions from employees related to benefits and policy guidelines.
Attend Career Fairs as needed. Works with local colleges and universities to promote and recruit potential candidates and interns.
Gather information and process documentation for Group Health Plan, Voluntary Dental Plan, Flexible Spending Account, and Company sponsored Life, LTD and AD&D, Voluntary Life and Voluntary Supplemental Insurance and Workers Compensation claim documents from employees.
Must comply with applicable policies, laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Experience:

Human Resources experience required. Banking related experience preferred. Good overall knowledge of how human resources, especially the legal aspects and training are effectively used and administered in the industry is necessary.

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

Degree in Human Resources or related field, SHRM certified or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Interpersonal Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively with people both verbally and in writing (listens and understands problems and assist staff at all levels as needed).

Other Skills:

Good computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required. Knowledge of employment laws such as, but not limited to FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, EEOC, FMLA, FLSA and other federal, state and local laws. Good problem-solving skills and ability to react quickly to arising problems is also required.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
