Job Summary
HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR
Brown Missionary Baptist Church is actively seeking a Human Resources Director. The HR Director will be responsible for developing and executing a human resource strategy that aligns with the organization’s overall business plan and strategic direction. Key focus areas will include culture, succession planning, talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compensation.
In this role, the HR Director will provide strategic leadership by communicating HR needs and plans to the executive management team, shareholders, and the board of directors. The HR Director will also design and implement adaptive systems to ensure the organization has internal leadership, effective talent practices, and a positive culture in place to achieve its mission of growing people.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is directly responsible for leading managers of the organization in HR policy and indirectly responsible for all employees within the organization.
Essential Functions:
Strategic
Develop and implement a human resources plan that aligns with the overall mission and strategy of the organization, resulting in innovative best practices and policies that will service the full range of Church needs and to help build a high performing culture of success, accountability, transparency, and collaboration.
Gain an understanding of the organization and participate fully in all strategic deliberations. Act as a strategic partner to all members of the senior management team, especially the Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor and provide insightful, innovative thinking and problem solving on critical Human Resource issues.
Optimize the HR function/team, modernize and refine key processes and activities aligned toward achieving strategic objectives.
Provide HR guidance on special projects, HR analytics and reporting, talent reviews, training, change management, benefits management, organizational design, and diversity and inclusion.
Serve as a thought leader, strategic advisor, and functional expert to all leaders regarding talent strategies.
Set a clear and compelling vision for attracting, developing, training, and retaining exceptional talent. Oversee strategies focused on recruitment of a diverse workforce, retention of employees, equitable compensation programs; create an employment brand that attracts and retains diverse applicants.
Operational
Proactively manage resource allocation and maintain a competitive approach to recruiting and assimilating high-potential talent. Advise on people programs and processes to enhance talent attraction, development, retention, and succession. Partner with the Finance Leader (CFO) in overseeing the payroll budget and headcount for the Church.
Manage departmental budget.
Develop a comprehensive approach to employee development, retention and onboarding by refining and creating compensation and benefits, career paths, succession planning, and learning opportunities as appropriate to the needs of the Church.
Oversee compensation practices and philosophy to ensure salary benchmarking and surveys are implemented on a regular basis.
Develop and implement compensation, promotion, and retention strategies to ensure that the Church remains competitive in the marketplace and provide fair and equitable compensation and benefits for all employees.
Guide the Human Resources Team in supporting Performance Management, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Engagement, Benefits, Rewards, Policy, and Compliance.
Manage HRIS and related systems, protocols, capabilities, and upgrades in conjunction with the Director of Technology Services.
Interact with vendors and external partners to create and maintain relationships and negotiate contracts.
Partner with Legal Counsel to ensure compliance and mitigate organizational risks.
Guide policy and program development to create a healthy and inclusive work environment.
Culture & Development
Develop adaptive systems that incentivize productivity and impact and enable clear system measurement and accountability of desirable behaviors, actions, and outcomes.
Develop relationships with employees of the Church; become someone who is sought for advice and counsel on HR, cultural, and organizational issues.
Facilitate integration of diverse workgroups, cultures and newly acquired assets.
Coach and counsel the senior leadership team in developing themselves and their teams to achieve improved performance and engagement.
Develop and implement a leadership development program to empower Church leaders to drive impact and embody the ideals of values-based leadership inherent in the mission.
Counsel, coach, and guide managers and staff in addressing concerns and complaints to assure fair and equitable treatment while ensuring compliance with local labor regulations and practices.
Coach and mentor fellow colleagues/managers and develop leadership bench strength capable of addressing the challenges of a highly dynamic organization.
Mediate employee relations and performance issues and provide counsel to fellow managers on appropriate methods of performance management.
Role model the core values of the Church and demonstrate leadership consistently with all members of the Church community.
Promote collaboration, communication, and commitment to an individual’s success across all programs.
Build a rewarding and engaging culture where creativity, quality, diversity, and inclusion are rewarded.
Provide strategic direction for training initiatives on cultural competency and other related topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values.
Attends and successfully completes all training required by the Church.
Skill Needed

Qualifications
BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university; MBA or MA/MS in human resources, organizational development, change management, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of HR experience, with at least five years of HR management experience
SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) preferred.
Physical Requirements
An employee in this position primarily works in a typical office environment and uses computers, calculators, phones, printers, and other office equipment to fulfill the position duties.
An employee in this position is required to walk, hear, speak, and stand to inspect the property and interact with staff, church members, and volunteers.
Work is conducted in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
The ability to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships, and reason through complex church business situations is required.
A flexible schedule is required since this position requires evening and weekend work.
Travel Requirements
A valid drivers’ license and acceptable motor vehicle record is required.
