The role
We're looking for a Junior Debtors Administrator to join our Finance team and support the student accounts portfolio. You'll work alongside our Debtors Manager and Finance Officer to keep student rent collections on track – monitoring arrears, reconciling NSFAS and private tenant payments, and following up with students in a way that's firm, fair, and empathetic.
This is a hands-on role where attention to detail matters, and where every interaction shapes a student's experience with MSH.
What you'll do
- Monitor student accounts daily and flag late or missing payments
- Send timely payment reminders via email and WhatsApp (within 24 hours of a missed payment)
- Reconcile NSFAS disbursements and private tenant payments against the MSH Management Platform and Accounting Software
- Follow up on outstanding balances professionally and respectfully
- Escalate unresolved accounts to the Debt Collector and Finance Lead within agreed timelines
- Maintain accurate, POPIA-compliant records of all debtor communications and payment arrangements
- Support weekly and monthly financial reporting on arrears, collections, and NSFAS payment status
- Assist with payment plan setups and tracking for students in genuine financial difficulty
What you'll bring
- 1+ year of experience in debt collection, credit control, or debtors administration
- Matric (a tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping is an advantage)
- Confidence with accounting software (Xero) and Microsoft Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication in English (Afrikaans or isiXhosa is a big plus)
- A sharp eye for detail and a well-organised approach to follow-ups
- Empathy – our debtors are students, not numbers
- Working understanding of POPIA and the importance of handling personal data responsibly
Nice to have
- Exposure to NSFAS processes or the student housing sector
- Experience with property management or CRM platforms
- Familiarity with the Debt Collectors Act
