Role Overview
The Lifting Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supervising lifting activities on data center design and build projects to ensure all lifting operations are planned and executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project requirements and applicable regulations.
The role will coordinate with the Project Management, Construction, HSE, Engineering, subcontractors, crane operators, riggers, and lifting equipment suppliers to ensure lifting activities are properly planned, controlled, and carried out safely.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise lifting activities, including crane, hoisting, and material handling operations on site.
- Ensure lifting activities are carried out in accordance with approved lifting plans, method statements, risk assessments, and project requirements.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, crane operators, riggers, signalmen, and relevant site teams.
- Review lifting plans and ensure appropriate cranes, lifting equipment, accessories, and manpower are available for the planned activities.
- Ensure lifting equipment and accessories are properly inspected, certified, and suitable for the intended lifting operation.
- Monitor lifting activities on site and ensure safe working practices are followed.
- Establish and maintain safe lifting zones, exclusion zones, access routes, and communication arrangements.
- Coordinate lifting activities with other construction works to prevent clashes and minimize risks.
- Identify potential lifting hazards and implement appropriate control measures in coordination with the HSE team.
- Stop or escalate lifting activities if unsafe conditions or non-compliance are identified.
- Ensure lifting activities comply with applicable Malaysian regulations, project requirements, and relevant industry standards.
- Maintain lifting records, inspection certificates, lifting plans, permits, and other relevant documentation.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, lifting briefings, safety inspections, and incident investigations when required.
- Support planning and coordination of critical or complex lifts, including heavy equipment and data center mechanical/electrical equipment.
Education and Skill
- Diploma or Certificate in Engineering, Construction, Mechanical Engineering, or related field is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in lifting operations, crane coordination, or construction site supervision.
- Experience in data center, industrial, commercial, or large-scale construction projects is preferred.
- Good knowledge of lifting operations, rigging practices, cranes, lifting equipment, and lifting accessories.
- Good understanding of lifting plans, risk assessments, method statements, and safe lifting practices.
- Familiarity with Malaysian lifting regulations and requirements, including DOSH/JKKP requirements.
- Ability to identify lifting hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
- Good coordination and communication skills with contractors, operators, riggers, engineers, and HSE teams.
- Strong safety awareness and ability to enforce safe lifting practices on site.
- Good planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Relevant lifting/crane-related competency or certification will be an advantage.
- Willing to work extended hours, shifts, weekends, or public holidays when required by project activities.
