Urban Pain Institute, an interventional pain management practice based in Anchorage, Alaska, is looking for an experienced, highly organized Medical Billing, Revenue Cycle & Administrative Specialist to join our team.
This is a remote position for an experienced professional who understands medical billing, insurance requirements, denials and appeals, prior authorizations, credentialing, and the administrative processes necessary to ensure the practice is reimbursed appropriately and remains compliant with insurance requirements and applicable laws.
The ideal candidate is extremely organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and persistent, and is comfortable working independently while also coordinating with our clinical and administrative staff.
Medical Billing, Revenue Cycle & Administrative Specialist Responsibilities
- Manage medical billing, accounts receivable, claims, denials, and insurance follow-up
- Research and resolve denied, unpaid, and underpaid claims
- Prepare and submit insurance appeals and reconsiderations
- Manage pre-authorizations/prior authorizations and ensure required documentation is submitted
- Assist with provider credentialing and payer requirements
- Review medical records and documentation to ensure requirements are met for billing and reimbursement
- Monitor insurance requirements, compliance changes, and applicable laws and regulations that affect our practice
- Ensure the practice remains compliant with payer and regulatory requirements
- Work closely with staff to identify what documentation, authorizations, and other information must be collected to support upcoming procedures and claims
- Conduct and coordinate weekly staff meetings to review upcoming work, required documentation, authorizations, and outstanding items needed for successful billing and collection
- Provide direction to staff regarding billing-related requirements and priorities
- Maintain organized billing, insurance, credentialing, and compliance records
- Identify problems in the billing process and develop solutions to improve collections and workflow
Medical Billing, Revenue Cycle & Administrative Specialist Qualifications
- 3+ years of medical billing experience preferred
- Strong experience with insurance denials and appeals
- Experience with prior authorizations/pre-authorizations
- Experience with provider credentialing
- Strong understanding of medical insurance requirements and reimbursement
- Experience with accounts receivable and insurance follow-up
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to research and understand insurance requirements and compliance changes
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Experience in pain management, anesthesiology, orthopedics, or another procedure-based specialty is strongly preferred
