Title: Onboarding Specialist

Company: Ad Astra Consultants

Location: Greater Kuala Lumpur

Role: Markets Client Onboarding Specialist

In short: You'll be responsible for opening and maintaining client accounts for Standard Chartered's Markets business (FX, Rates, Credit, Repo, Treasury products), making sure it's done accurately, on time, and follows all bank rules.

What you'll actually do day-to-day

  • Handle client account opening requests and fix any errors quickly, so nothing is left pending or unresolved.
  • Escalate issues fast when something looks risky, so problems don't pile up.
  • Support new business by making sure operations are "ready" — i.e., systems, checks, and processes are in place before a new client or product goes live.
  • Work with teams across different countries/time zones (a "follow the sun" setup) so client requests keep moving even after your shift ends.
  • Build good working relationships with internal teams (Front Office, Sales, Traders, Client Relationship Managers, Risk & Audit teams) so issues get resolved quickly.
  • Train colleagues in other regional hubs when you spot gaps in their knowledge.
  • Work with the Technology team to improve or automate processes.
  • Suggest and help build efficiency improvements with the Front Office.
  • Stay updated on banking regulations and make sure your work follows them.
  • Represent Operations during audits (internal, external, or regulator-led) and make sure any audit findings are fixed within deadlines.
  • Be the "go-to" person for onboarding data/reporting (MIS) — know the numbers, spot trends, and suggest improvements.

What mindset/behavior is expected

  • Risk-aware: Understand rules and industry trends well enough to flag risks and protect the bank.
  • Process-driven: Follow official procedures; if something needs to deviate from the process, flag it.
  • Collaborative: You'll constantly coordinate with onshore teams, managers, and other regional hubs to keep processes consistent globally.
  • Ethical/compliant: Follow the bank's Code of Conduct and complete mandatory compliance training on time.

  • Front Office (Sales & Traders)
  • Onshore Markets Client Onboarding & Execution (MCOE) team
  • Client Relationship Managers
  • OCRM (Operational/Client Risk Management)
  • Risk & Audit teams
