About the Opportunity

An established infrastructure and construction services company is seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator to join its team. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who has hands-on experience with union payroll and is comfortable navigating the complexities of multi-state, multi-trade workforces in the construction industry.

Position Summary

The Payroll Administrator will be responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll for a workforce that includes union employees across various trades and classifications. This role requires strong knowledge of certified payroll, prevailing wage requirements, union fringe benefit reporting, and collective bargaining agreement (CBA) compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Process weekly/bi-weekly payroll for union and non-union employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable CBAs. Calculate and apply union fringe benefits, dues, and deductions in accordance with collective bargaining agreements. Prepare and submit certified payroll reports for prevailing wage and government-funded projects (e.g., WH-347). Reconcile and remit union benefit reports to various trust funds and benefit administrators. Maintain accurate employee records related to union classifications, wage rates, and job costing. Work closely with project managers and field supervisors to ensure proper job cost allocation and labor reporting. Respond to payroll inquiries from employees, union representatives, and auditors. Stay current on changes to union agreements, prevailing wage laws, and payroll tax regulations. Assist with multi-state payroll tax compliance and reporting. Support year-end payroll processes, including W-2 preparation and audits. Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee data at all times.

Qualifications

3+ years of payroll experience required, with direct experience processing union payroll (construction industry strongly preferred). Working knowledge of certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting requirements. Familiarity with multiple collective bargaining agreements and fringe benefit structures. Experience with job costing and labor distribution across multiple projects. Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., Viewpoint, Foundation, Sage, or similar construction payroll systems) preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with union representatives and field staff. Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
