Overview
The Dutchess County Water & Wastewater Authority is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Principal Clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting daily operations by managing administrative tasks and providing exceptional support to both customers and staff. This position requires a proactive individual who can handle multiple responsibilities while maintaining a professional demeanor.

The position will be responsible for the performance of difficult or complex clerical tasks as well as administrative support services relating to water & wastewater operations. The work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Operations. Position is a full-time 40 hr per week, based out of the Authority’s main office at 1 Lagrange Ave, Poughkeepsie.

Duties

Participates in the maintenance and auditing of water & wastewater operations data records and reports;

Prepares regulatory and internal operations reports;

Maintains regulatory compliance calendar, prioritizes email and responds to customer inquiries;

Performs clerical support functions for Director of Operations and field staff; including issuing of service work orders, public notices, skilled keyboarding, reception, record maintenance, database management.

Provides telephone and in-person support to water & sewer service customers.

Maintains records of departmental equipment;

Maintains record and compliance of water system back-flow prevention devices and meter maintenance requirements;

Maintains record of water and wastewater regulatory sampling; 9. Maintains, updates and creates various computerized records including work orders;

Provide proofreading support for documents to ensure clarity and accuracy before distribution.

Utilize Microsoft Suite for document creation, spreadsheet management, and presentation preparation.

Does related work as required.

Skills

Proficiency in Google Suite applications (Docs, Sheets, Calendar) is essential.

Strong data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent proofreading abilities to ensure high-quality documentation.

Experience in office management or clerical roles is preferred..

Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on phone etiquette.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
