Role Description
The Receptionist for Laboratory is a full-time, on-site role based in Kathmandu. The individual in this position will greet and register patients, manage incoming phone calls, and respond to general inquiries in a professional manner. Daily responsibilities include scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, coordinating with laboratory staff for sample collection and report delivery, and handling basic clerical tasks such as filing and data entry. The role also involves guiding patients on test procedures, ensuring a clean and organized reception area, and supporting the administrative team to facilitate smooth laboratory operations.
Job Description for a Laboratory Receptionist
- Receiving visitors at the front desk by greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing them appropriately
- Answering, screening and forwarding incoming phone calls
- Ensuring the reception area is tidy and presentable, with all necessary stationery and material (e.g. pens, forms and brochures)
- Receives samples from employees and laboratory customers in a manner that ensures the samples are kept in a clear “chain of custody” to ensure reliability of test results
- Logs in samples to the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) upon receipt
- Maintains the sampling Standard Operating Procedures with the assistance of the Lab Assistant
- Cleans and maintains the sample receiving area so that it can function in a neat and orderly manner
- Performs a variety of clerical tasks that may include commercial invoicing, maintaining spreadsheets, and file management
- Develops and maintains positive public relations with emphasis on customer service
- Assists the Laboratory Technicians when requested
- Work with the Lab Assistant collecting samples and/or preparing sampling equipment
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Receptionist Duties and Clerical Skills to manage front desk operations, appointments, and documentation efficiently.
- Candidates should possess excellent Phone Etiquette and Communication skills to handle calls, provide information, and interact with patients and staff clearly and respectfully.
- Candidates should possess solid Customer Service skills to offer patient-centered assistance, address concerns, and maintain a welcoming environment.
- Basic computer literacy, including use of office software and patient management systems, is required.
- Prior experience in a healthcare or diagnostic center setting is an advantage.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; additional training in administration or healthcare support is beneficial.
