This role is responsible for overseeing the administration of the organization’s database systems. Key responsibilities include analyzing the organization’s database requirements, designing and implementing efficient data storage solutions, and developing a comprehensive long-term strategy for database management. The Supervisor will ensure the highest standards of data security and integrity, while also optimizing database performance and scalability to support organizational growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Database Platform: Oversee all aspects of the database platform, ensuring compliance with the technology landscape and alignment with the long-term strategic goals of the organization.
  • Project Implementation: Lead and deliver database projects to meet established targets and objectives.
  • Database Tuning: Conduct performance tuning of databases to optimize efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Hardware Maintenance: Patch and maintain Oracle Exadata and Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) hardware.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop project and budget strategies to support database initiatives.
  • Procedures and Guidelines: Establish and enforce procedures and guidelines for the database environment to ensure operational excellence.
  • Performance Measurement: Measure and document changes in performance following system modifications to assess impact.
  • Data Backup and Recovery: Implement robust data backup and recovery solutions, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and safeguarding data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Capacity and Disaster Recovery Planning: Conduct capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning to mitigate risks.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor database performance proactively to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
  • User Access Management: Manage privileged user access and profiles within databases to maintain security and compliance.
  • Tablespace Maintenance: Maintain tablespaces and optimize space utilization in Oracle databases.
  • Database Housekeeping: Conduct regular database housekeeping, including purging and archiving of data.
  • Audit Trail Management: Enable unified audit trails in Oracle databases and create audit policies to ensure compliance and accountability.
  • SQL Tuning: Perform Oracle database tuning, SQL tuning, and diagnostic tuning to enhance performance.
  • Software Updates: Install, update, and patch Oracle database software to the latest releases and versions.
  • Unix Command Knowledge: Utilize Unix commands as needed to support database operations.
  • Cluster Management: Manage Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Active Data Guard environments.
  • Service Level Agreements: Ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) and compliance standards.
  • Data Protection: Uphold the principles of Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) for all data.
  • Issue Escalation: Escalate issues to the Oracle development team and third-party vendors as necessary.
  • Database Installation and Restoration: Install or restore databases for new environments as requested by stakeholders or system owners.
  • Performance Improvement: Continuously improve and maintain database performance through effective tuning, ensuring availability to support all banking systems.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.  
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience as a database administrator 
  • Proficiency in Data manipulation languages, including MS SQL, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB
  • Knowledgeable in backup and restore Database in schedule and real time data replication approach.
  • Knowledge some PLSQL Programing
  • Perform tuning and Optimize the Database
  • Knowledge in Oracle Real application cluster
  • Active Data Guard configuration
  • Shell Script
  • Familiarity with the best practices and principles of data storage and should be able to provide strategic direction for managing growing databases.
  • Making key decisions about data privacy and security, so they should be very knowledgeable about data security, particularly during backups and migration
  • Understanding Cloud computing
  • RDBMS hardening
  • OCA, OCP or related certification are preferred 
  • Demonstrated leadership and personnel management skills
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Ability to present ideas for general users to understand
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Sound decision making/analytical/problem solving skills
  • Able to make and execute difficult and/or unpopular decisions
