Position Summary:
Better Together ND is seeking a highly motivated and experienced HR Generalist to establish and manage our human resources functions. This pivotal role will be responsible for a wide array of HR activities, ensuring our policies and practices are compliant, our staff feel supported, and we attract and retain top talent. Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment, Screening, and Interviewing: Lead the full recruitment lifecycle, including developing job descriptions, posting openings, sourcing candidates, conducting initial screenings, coordinating interviews, and assisting hiring managers in selection decisions.
Onboarding New Staff: Develop and implement a comprehensive onboarding program to ensure new hires feel welcomed, informed, and integrated into our team from day one.
Employee Retention: Develop and implement strategies to promote employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
Staff Conflict Resolution: Serve as a neutral party to address and resolve workplace conflicts, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
Policy and Procedure Compliance: Ensure all company policies and procedures comply with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Develop, update, and communicate HR policies as needed.
Payroll Administration: Manage and process payroll accurately and on time, including maintaining payroll records and addressing any payroll-related inquiries.
HR Data Entry and Administration: Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, conduct data entry, and manage HR-related documentation.
Special Projects: Lead or assist with various HR-related projects as needed, such as benefits administration, performance management initiatives, training and development, and HR system implementation.
Culture Building: Contribute to fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
3+ years of progressive experience as an HR Generalist, preferably in a non-profit or small to medium-sized organization.
Demonstrated knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws (federal and North Dakota state).
Proven experience in full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations.
Experience with payroll processing and HRIS systems.
Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and negotiation skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
Experience establishing an HR function from the ground up.
