Role Description The Nature Guide role is a full-time, on-site position based at Rompin Rainforest Lodge in Pahang, Malaysia. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading guided rainforest walks, wildlife-spotting excursions, and other interpretive activities, while sharing accurate information about local flora, fauna, ecosystems, and conservation initiatives. The Nature Guide ensures guest safety by assessing trail conditions, following lodge protocols, and providing clear briefings on outdoor and wildlife safety. The role also involves preparing educational materials, assisting with lodge-based activities, observing and recording wildlife sightings, and contributing to sustainable practices around the property. The Nature Guide collaborates with lodge staff to deliver a welcoming, informative, and environmentally responsible experience for all visitors.
Qualifications
- Good knowledge of rainforest ecology, wildlife, and local natural history, with the ability to communicate this information clearly to guests.
- Experience guiding outdoor or adventure activities, including navigation on forest trails, situational awareness, and basic risk assessment in natural environments.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage diverse groups, adapt information to different age ranges, and provide excellent guest service.
- Physical fitness and comfort working outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including walking on uneven terrain and carrying basic field equipment.
- Commitment to environmental conservation, sustainable tourism principles, and respectful conduct toward local communities and cultures.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required by guest activities.
- Proficiency in English; additional languages commonly used by visitors to Malaysia are an advantage.
- Relevant education or experience in ecology, biology, environmental science, outdoor recreation, or a related field is preferred.
- First aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain these certifications soon after hire.
